Funeral Arrangements for DE 1's Bill Truitt

by Robert Freeman on 04/13/17

Everyone,

Terri called us again last evening to let us know how she is doing, as well as give us an update on services as they are at that time.

The viewing and funeral services will both be at Spicer Mullikan Funeral Home, located at 1000 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, Delaware, 19720. The viewing will be on Tuesday evening, April 18th, from 1800 to 2000 hours. The funeral service will be the following morning, Wednesday, April 19th at 1130 hours. Terri has asked that any Blue Knights in attendance wear their Blue Knight colors and, if they so desire, arrive on their bikes. Uniform for the day will be a white shirt, black or dark tie, black jeans/trousers, and Blue Knight vest.

John Barnett has suggested that those attending from the south who would like to ride north with him on Tuesday or Wednesday, please contact him either via email
sportsman2114@gmail.com or via cell 302-275-0234 as soon as you can. By Monday evening, John will then send out an email to those who have contacted him advising of meeting and departure locations for those coming north from Kent and Sussex County.

John also made a good suggestion on everyone meeting for both the viewing and funeral services at the Farmers' Market, located on Routes 13 and 273 (Hares Corner) in New Castle, DE. As some of you will know, this includes a very large parking lot which is empty except over the weekend. From that location, everyone can easily pull into the lot, as well as we can get everyone out easily also. The funeral home is only about another mile north on Rt 13 from the Farmers' Market.

Currently the weather forecast for Tuesday is sunny with a high of 63 and a low of 45 overnight. Wednesday is partly cloudy with a high of 62, with showers forecast for late evening on that day.

After all of the details for the services and parking and such are finalized, which should be by close of business this coming Friday April 14th, I will send another email out to everyone by Saturday night with final arrangements and times. If you are unable to attend and desire to send a card to the family, Terri's home address is 45 Neptune Drive, Frankford, Delaware, 19945

In closing about Bill, some of you have only had the privilege of knowing him for a short time. On the other hand, I met Bill and Terri in 1987 through Gail as she and Terri were working together at that time. During their conversations at work, Gail learned from Terri that Bill's father had been a Wilmington, Delaware police officer. We then learned that Bill's father, Willard E. Pruitt, Jr, who was assigned a motorcycle in the Traffic Division, died on Friday July 7th during a police pursuit. With that found, Bill and I met and he began riding with our chapter as a guest as we did not have any openings for a Honorary member at the time. Bill then became an official Honorary member with our chapter in 1995 and has held that position since that time. I can say without question that Bill was one of the proudest persons I know to be a member of the Blue Knights organization. He showed this by always being one of the first to volunteer to help out with anything and is known nationwide due to his attending Blue Knight International conventions since the mid 90's through the present, as well as Mason Dixon Blue Knight Conference meetings and all other Blue Knight chapter rides along the east coast.

Again, I will send out final arrangements by Saturday night regarding meeting locations and such. In the interim, please keep Bill, Terri, their two daughters Lori and Nicole, their husbands and children, in your thoughts and prayers.

Rabbit's Update

by Robert Freeman on 04/05/17

From Allen Lester

4/3/2017 11:23 AM:

BLUE KNIGHTS MARYLAND ONE

INFORMATION FROM VOISELLE HIGGINS:

I had the opportunity to speak with Rabbit (Ronald Harrison) yesterday and he is doing better than expected.  You may be aware he went down on his Victory motorcycle while in Phoenix, Arizona.

He experienced a rear wheel blowout and received broken ribs only.  He stated he was in the third lane when he heard a loud bang and started feeling a wobble in the rear.  He was able to move to the right lane but decided he was not able to make it off the highway safely,  and decided to separate himself from the motorcycle to reduce injury.

His injuries are minor considering his speed and a total loss of his motorcycle.  He will be returning to the area around April 18, 2017.  God was with him to reduce his injuries.  Stay safe.

Attention Blue Knights members both far and wide! On December 4, 2019, Kirk Williams from Maryland I transferred from chapter to Heaven I. To grieve this loss, Kirk leaves behind a wife of 34 years and two adult children. While speaking with Kirk's wife, Maxine, it was learned that she was a patch collector, which she thoroughly enjoyed.. We are seeking assistance from our Brothers and Sisters at this time by asking if you can help us enhance Maxine's collection thereby giving her an outlet to work through her grief. If you are able to assist, please send the patch to: Blue Knights Maryland - I, P.O. Box 52, Bladensburg, Maryland 20710.

Thank you in advance and remember, RIDE WITH PRIDE!

Fellow Blue Knights,

It is with great sadness that we must advise all of passing of the Founder of the Blue Knights, Ed Gallant, transferred to the Heaven 1 chapter. A very modest and humble man who loved the Blue Knights, it was his idea to start the club in 1974.

What began as a single chapter with 7 members has grown to almost 16,000 members, 599 chapters, in 31 countries. Ed nor any of the Founding Fathers had any clue it would ever get to where it is today.

Please keep his lovely wife Maggie and Ed’s family in your thoughts and prayers. He is now riding again with fellow Heaven 1 chapter members and Founding Fathers Doug Minor, Joel Rudom, Chuck Gessner, and Bill Robinson. Thank you for your friendship and rest in paradise Ed you'll be missed.
